Why become an Accounting Technician |
Access and Flexibility A key feature of the Scheme is flexibility. The AAT Education and Training Scheme is designed to allow individuals the opportunity to achieve their full potential and also allows employers to become directly involved in the education, training and assessment of their staff. There are no minimum entry requirements for the AAT's Education and Training Scheme, or Diploma, although students are expected to have a good standard of English and an interest in mathematics as competence in accountancy relies on the ability to work with figures as well as effective communications. Students with no background or experience in accountancy are advised to start at the Foundation Stage.(NVQ 2) For
those with relevant work experience, it may be possible to receive exemption
from the Foundation Stage by gaining credit for what they can already do, and to
join the Scheme directly at the Intermediate Stage (NVQ 3). This can be achieved by means of a Skillcheck prepared by the AAT. The Skillcheck shows how present work experience corresponds with the requirements of the AAT qualification and will help to decide whether there is a need to study course units at all levels or to seek accreditation of existing skills.
Those wishing to become Members of the AAT, are required to prove
their competence at NVQ Levels 3 and 4 (Intermediate and Technician Stage of
study), to have evidence of one year’s full time work after registering as an
AAT student, and to have a professional recommendation for suitability as an AAT
full member. However,
Students may instead choose to complete a single Stage, or even selected units.
Whether students complete the whole scheme or only part, they will have detailed
certification of exactly what they can do. A certificate is awarded on
completion of each Stage or (for a small fee) for individual units. To view the structure of the
