Your previous qualification may already have been formally assessed by CIMA, in which case you may be eligible for exemption from some of the exams. If the qualification does not hold an exemption decision, you can apply for a special decision. The course you have completed will then be reviewed and exemptions may be awarded at the discretion of CIMA. This may however take some time to complete. Professional qualifications are also considered when deciding on level of entry. CIMA have a particularly close relationship with AAT and successful completion of this course at technician level will gain exemptions from all five CIMA Foundation level subjects. ACCA students wishing to transfer to the CIMA syllabus can be awarded exemptions on a paper-by-paper basis. This new policy, which is an extension of the credit accumulation system, ensures that students are credited for all of their exams passed to date. For
qualifications where compensation across modules is permitted, a pass mark of
40% or above in each module will be required for exemption purposes, regardless
of the awarding institution's pass mark for the module. For all
other qualifications (including professional qualifications) a pass at the
publicised mark will be required. Exemption from the strategy papers will be granted for academic achievement at postgraduate Master's degree level only. We will only award exemption to students who have achieved a pass mark of 50% in each modular component of the award. Exemptions notes Students who hold the following categories of degree from institutions in the UK (or non-UK degrees which the British Council or NARIC considers to be the equivalent) can expect to receive the following exemptions without their qualifications having to be formally assessed:
Please Note: exemptions beyond the Foundation level are not given for academic qualifications gained ten (or more) years prior to registration with CIMA. Note These decisions are based on comprehensive information from institutions. CIMA will only make amendments via communication from the university or college concerned. CIMA continually review and update exemption decisions and as a result, it is not feasible to update students' records on an ongoing basis. It is therefore advisable to check with MCG to see if additional exemptions have become available. This is particularly important if a full reassessment of your qualification has not been undertaken against CIMA's current syllabus. Exemptions are granted only at the discretion of CIMA.
